Our PC Program
Now, more than ever before, technology allows disabled individuals unprecedented practical and creative opportunities. Today's PC technologies allow for institutionalized, bedridden and mobility challenged individuals to be heard.
Using state-of-the-art voice technologies and other adaptive equipment, the foundation has succeeded in enabling those individuals to go "online".
Enabling communication allows for collaboration with other SCI individuals, advocacy groups and medical professionals through faxing, email and chat rooms. E-commerce provides for unlimited products and services choices otherwise unavailable to the SCI individual. To some, a new level of independence can be achieved, providing meaningful employment opportunities. The foundation supplies new PCs and adaptive technologies to qualified needy individuals.
The picture above is Topher is a 17-year-old ventilator dependent quadriplegic, who is unable to have his cuff deflated to allow for voice due to the risk of aspiration. As a result, communicating his wants, needs, and even his basic thoughts and ideas is challenging for him. His family and caregivers are forced to read his lips. This is possible but difficult and time consuming. The Foundation provided the means for Topher to regain communication by providing funds for adaptive technologies.
